So sad.
I had been really looking forward to watching Nick play this year. A few seasons back rookie Joe Saunders got the chance to show his talent to the world. Watching Joe in his limited starts I realized he had the potential to be a great regular starting rotation pitcher one day and was pleased to see that come to fruition last year when he made his first All Star Team.
Coming into this season I knew Nick was going to show us the same kind of great potential to rise up to the top of the league like Joe. Last night I watched the game full of excitement as I saw him strike out 5 Oakland A’s on his way to pitching 6 scoreless innings. His first start of the ‘09 season and his best start in the big leagues to date.
I’m heartbroken that this has happened. 22 years old and just beginning to step up into the prime of his career; I’m sure yet to experience so many great things in life that so many of us may take for granted. A dumb ass drunk who blew through a red light ended his life.
May God comfort his family, friends and the loved ones of the other victims involved in the accident. May Nick and the others who passed away be with God in their new lives.
